For me, this is an exciting world to live in. I think that the world is rapidly globalizing and people coming up today are interested in participating in the global economy. We think it is great that if we are educated enough we can take our skills anywhere in the world. I am personally excited by the idea of being a leader in a globalized world where one's ability to think is a major asset, and where the value of one's contribution to the world is more fairly compensated. For me, a flat world is a good thing.I don't doubt that Friedman is going to have to refine his work, especially as the years pass and we start to see some of the things he talked about come into play. I look forward to revisiting this book in a decade or so and just seeing how the world Friedman describes has change, what we've built onto this model and what ideas have been left behind. For me, the World is Flat has been a thought-provoking read and I know that the book has provoked a lot of thought for a lot of people and that is one of its greatest appeals. These are actually complicated concepts, and the book does a pretty good job of explaining it for those of us who are not experts in politics, economics or the forces of globalization. It is an interesting take on a controversial subject and I appreciate having the chance to learn about it and think about the subject matter some more.
