The behavior is especially rampant in China and other nearby countries where even the government is pervasively involved with stealing secrets and trampling on trademarks (Hughes, 2014). Given all of that, it would be wise of Disney to make sure they get their profits but at the same time not alienate people though high-end price points.

As for solutions to the above, Disney can and probably should do a few things. First, given that they are very entrenched with Amazon and given that Amazon's reach in terms of free and for-charge content far exceeds that of any other service, Disney should open a "Disney store" under the Amazon nameplate. They should still give some titles to Netflix and others, but it should be the more dated ones and those that are less in demand. They are basically doing the latter already. However, if they were marketed more prominently with Amazon, they could charge lower prices (especially for Amazon Prime members) but still make a lot of sales. While Disney corporate is surely having some success with their ABC and Disney streaming options, they are not going to usurp Netflix or Amazon anytime soon. As such, they should partner with firms that can get them more exposure and thus it can be a win for both of them. After all, the physical media is going to go away eventually, at least for most people. Bandwidth for internet services is literally growing by the day with Google offering 1 gigabit download speeds in some parts of the United States (Google, 2014).

As for the anti-Jewish/Nazi correlations, Disney should probably just let those be. It will tend to bubble up from time to time but that era has been gone for half a century and wringing one's hands about it now is probably not worth the trouble. The facts that need to be known are out there and Disney should not fight that unless a prominent person or body is obviously defaming the company. Disney should be all about all access all of the time. They should not offer and then retract a good because that goes against the marketing trends of today and will only hurt Disney in the long run. They should offer all of their goods all of the time and at reasonable prices. They can certainly still cycle through their prior works and accentuate one at a time and/or offer them at a lower price. However, the internet and the resale market is going to keep them honest whether they want it to or not. Lastly, Disney might also want to explore acquiring a company like Comcast so as to remain competitive with NBC. Examples companies would be Time Warner, Cox Communications, CenturyLink/Qwest and others. Anti-trust rumblings might come to the forefront if they do this but if the NBC/Comcast transaction were allowed, it is hard to deny Disney the same thing given that ABC (a Disney subsidiary) and NBC are direct competitors.

Conclusion

In the end, Disney should be fine. They do seem to be embracing a partnership with Netflix and Amazon Instant Video as well as pushing their own streaming options. Regardless, Disney should keep doing what brings them profits but they should shutter tactics that are clearly not feasible or profitable in the modern age. A lack of stubbornness can be the difference between a firm reinventing and changing itself and a firm that goes under. Blockbuster Video was an example of the latter.
