The national committee for quality assurance is a private non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving health care quality. This organization works with employers, policy makers, doctors and patients on health issues and related problems. This task is made simple through the basic formula of: Measure, Analyze and Improve. Its contribution to health care is measured through statistics. Health plans in every state, in the United State, are NCQA certified covering an average of 109 million Americans or about 70.5% of all Americans enrolled in these plans.

This plan is both theoretically and practically possible. It works by increasing the quality of healthcare, by making it safer, timely, efficient, effective, and equal and patient centered. It has also helped to reduce cost by making better quality much more affordable. It provides incentives for preventative care and health care competition. It also promotes health information technology, which aid in diagnosis and treatment, thus catalyzing investment in this area.

On the adverse is a battle between process and outcome. The outcome derived point to a problem but does not identify the source. Also, there is no good way to adjust the risk associated with certain problems, such as in surgery, co-morbidities, patient non-compliance, cultural and religious factors and so on. Problems associated with these areas cannot be eliminated, but can be minimized. he cardiovascular surgeon. Hence, measures must be assigned to more than one specialty. The major problem, however, with trying to improve quality is the fact that it pulls revenues down. Physicians, constantly under pressure, tend to order more laboratory results so as to avoid the risk of a medical error.

The nineteenth and especially the twentieth century have provided a boom to medical technology. It has undoubtedly improved diagnosis, thus increasing the capability of modern medicine. It has improved quality of life and has shown to even have increased it considerably. MRI is one such medical break through, revealing many medical mysteries. Even a simple diagnostic tool, such as an X-ray, can reveal important points. It has also affected the doctor patient relationship. Disparities that exist between the doctor and patients with limited English fluency can be overcome to a certain degree using these facilities. However, despite its increasing popularity, it still remains a tool for the privileged due to its high cost. Moreover, overuse of this facility can result in many disastrous effects, such as radiation exposure of the neck leading to cancer, multiple X-rays leading to infertility and so on.

In relation to the above mentioned evidences, I have come to a conclusion that the healthcare system of the United States of America lags far behind that of other developed nations. This truth is despite the fact that more money is spent on the health of an average American than citizens of any other nation. Studies have attributed this to medical errors. To prevent this problem, a physician should hold the responsibility of providing the best possible health care to their patients. Furthermore, to keep this duty in check, a non-profit organization, called the national committee for quality assurance makes itself responsible for quality care. Health plans in every state are NCQA certified, allowing for better health care delivery.
