Phenomenology Approach

Phenomenological approach focuses on the description of what people experience. This analysis should also focus on explaining the concept of the interaction of individuals or participants with the experience they have for the execution of the interview (Pringle et al., 2011). Phenomenological analysis is also essential in elucidating the importance of using methods to capture the experience of individuals while conducting the interview. In this approach, the researcher focuses on the examination of the central underlying meaning of the experience. Through this approach, it is possible to evaluate the essence of the lived experience thus the need to focus on depth meaning of a particular encounter. Phenomenological approach aims at describing, interpreting, and provision of critical self-reflection in the examination of the particular experience or encounter. This approach is also vital in the examination of meanings and perspectives of the relevant participants during an interview or data collection process.

This indicates that the analysis approach operates towards understanding of daily experiences or interactions and the constitution of encounters or experiences in relation to the participants. The main driving ideology in the adoption and implementation of this approach is that individuals have the ability to know what they experience or encounter in the pursuit of their personal or communal targets. In this analysis, it is vital to focus on the individual's point-of-view before embarking on the researcher's perspective (Pringle et al., 2011). This will enhance the process of realization of subject consciousness as perceived within the objects thus the opportunity to understand human phenomena. The researcher executes an effective and efficient interview to obtain valuable data in relation to the inner perspective of the participant. The aim of the interview in this analysis is to find or examine the perspective of an individual with reference to a particular encounter or experience.

Analysis of the interview data

In the analysis of interview data through phenomenological approach, it is essential to follow or integrate the following five steps. These steps will offer an opportunity for the development of concrete description of the encounter or experience (Hycner, 1985). The five steps for the analysis of the interview data include:

I. Reading through the transcript with the aim of obtaining the relevant concepts and subject matter for the execution of the research

II. Determination of the natural meaning units

III. Restating of the natural meaning units in simple and precise illustration to enhance understanding of the main concepts of the data

IV. Interrogation of the meaning units with reference to the purpose of the study

V. Tying together essential non-redundant themes of the entire interview within the context of a descriptive statement

The main purpose of the interview process was to describe the encounter of a soldier within the context of the United States' Army. In order to achieve this goal, the interview focused on a subject who was a 67-year-old man who served for over 20 years in the army. The interviewer approaches the study with no preceding ideas thus the opportunity to exercise objectivity in the data collection process. The interviewer also focused on letting the data illustrates the idea rather than perceive ideas in the collection of dat.

In order to promote or improve the credibility of the data, the interviewer organized an enhanced data collection method thus closely monitoring the questions to the respondents. This aims at ensuring the illustration shared experience rather than integration of pre-digested theoretical ideas in the collection of data. The interviewee illustrates on how he joined the military through elaboration of factors essential for experience. This is one of the defining moments in the development of the transcript and collection of data. Another defining moment is the description of the level of training in the camps. This enables the researcher to evaluate and understand the conditions within the military ranks through critical analysis of the responses by the respondent.

It is also essential to note on the importance of the description of the work experience of the interviewee. This is vital in the understanding on how the individuals (soldiers) feel and experience in enhancing the security of the nation and relevant citizens. These units are essential in the realization of the main themes in the interview as transformation, economic crisis, dedication, hard work, and passion. These thematic issues are essential in understanding the events within the context of the military as presented by the participant with vast knowledge on the subject of study (Oppenheim, 2001).

Findings

The aim of the study was to understand the experience within the United States' Army. One of the findings in relation to this transcript is the essence of joining the military. The methods for joining the military were drafting and enlisting. There are several reasons why individuals join the military. One of the most common reasons for joining the military is passion behind enhancing the security of the nation. Like in the context of the participant in this research exercise, passion was the main reason behind joining the military. Another reason is economic crisis or financial gains. Participant notes that he had to do two jobs: teacher and part time soldier for the financial gain. This relates to the financial or economic crisis affecting the individuals within the context of the United States. Another essential finding in the execution of this research is that United States' Army offers the fastest way to get to the flight school. This indicates that soldiers with the objective of becoming military pilots should focus on joining the military through the army.

Military experience in the United States requires dedication and hard work. This is because soldiers spend most the time in the battlefields and peacemaking mission. This indicates the soldiers spend most of their times away from their families. According to the information provided by the participant, soldiers spend approximately 265 days away from their families. This is an indication that the military experience requires passion, dedication, and hard work in order to achieve personal and organizational goals. It is also essential to note that the training and boot camp experience in the military concept requires dedication, discipline, and hard work. This is evident through strict routines for the soldiers to enhance their expertise in the provision of security. The routine is an illustration of the level of discipline essential for the achievement of the personal and military goals. The number of individuals who succeed in these training sessions also indicates dedication and passion. This is because a minority there entails a minority selection from the majority who enroll for the training sessions thus a reflection of the level of hard work and dedication for the achievement of the personal and military goals.

Age is an important factor while undergoing training within the military camps. Older individuals or soldiers acquire respect and fair treatment from their seniors unlike younger trainees who in most cases undergo harsh conditions as they pursue their personal goals and objectives. This is evident from the treatment obtained by the participant while undergoing military training with the aim of becoming a military pilot. It is also essential to note that military trainings and preparations are similar in most cases. This is an indication that soldiers prepare equally for the war and peace mission.

This is confirmed through the data from interviewing the retired-military participant in the execution of research. It is also essential to note that instructors have massive influence on the behavior and interactions of the trainees within the military camps. This is through proclamation of the participant on the influence of the instructor on his development within the military camp. Instructors focus on instilling self-discipline and belief in the trainees thus the opportunity to produce quality leaders. Soldiers also integrate modern technologies in order to enhance interaction or communication with other individuals after and during the mission or service duration.
