Introduction

The client has restricted mobility and relies on a wheelchair. Chronic respiratory and other health conditions also require the client to have daily nursing care. Because the client is an outspoken white supremacist, he has enemies, including those from rival white supremacist groups. Moreover, he is currently out on a $1 million bond, having been arrested for murder and civil rights violations. The case has been covered by local news media, and the client likes being in the spotlight. He is therefore a highly visible and high profile target.

The security detail will include eight individuals for one day\\\'s work. The security detail is entrusted with escorting the client to and from the courtroom in Los Angeles, where he is scheduled to appear. The expedition will originate from the client\\\'s home in Laguna Beach, and back after the day in court. Security protection will also include coverage for the client\\\'s estate on the beach for the duration of the expedition, which is scheduled to last most of the day given the one hour each way transportation.

In addition to the clients Laguna Beach estate, the security detail needs also to consider the vehicle used to transport the client. The clients estate is walled but not

gated, necessitating the posting of personnel at the main entry point. Primary threats include the presence of the press force and a small group of protesters who have gathered around the house. Two members of the eight-person detail will remain on the property, one at the entryway and the other patrolling the perimeter of the house itself. If the client has CCTV, then the live feed needs to be available for monitoring on the security personnel portable devices or outsourced. If no CCTV has been installed, then a drone can be used to provide additional monitoring of the property. The propertyas well as the vehicleneed to be thoroughly scanned for explosives. Of the remaining six members, five will accompany the client and the nurse in the vehicle and one will remain at the entryway to the courthouse.

Because the bulk of the transportation takes place on the freeway, the car is vulnerable mainly at the points of entry and exit: when leaving the clients estate and arriving back, and also when arriving and departing from the courthouse. Two security personnel will be stationed on either side of the driveway to protect the car during this vulnerable period, and will then enter the vehicle and provide similar service when the vehicle nears the courthouse. Depending on the size of the protest, the vehicle may be impeded upon entry. If possible, law enforcement should be asked to provide additional vulnerability assessments on the freeway, to ensure there are no explosives planted en route (Polzin, n.d.). Law enforcement may be able to provide additional assistance while at the courthouse, given their presence may be warranted due to the fact that it is a public space and the presence of protesters in this emotional case.

A sweep of the courthouse area should be made prior to transporting the client. The sweep should include an assessment of adjacent buildings and their roofs. There may be clear lines of site from adjacent buildings and the passageway where the client will be transported into the courthouse. It is critical to know the exact entry point into the courthouse and keep one member of the security detail there throughout the duration of the event. Prior to the day of the event, the security personnel should be allowed access to the courthouse to perform a full scan for any explosive devices that might have been planted there.

If possible, the vehicle used should be armored. If it is not an armored vehicle, then the client and nurse shall sit in the middle of the vehicle flanked by the security team. When the vehicle pulls up to the courthouse entry point, three members of the detail will exit the vehicle first. The one who is assigned to the nurse will stand with the nurse the entire time, escorting the nurse… READ MORE

Planning and Threat Assessment Paper

Consider the following scenario:

Your client is a man in his 40s. He is confined to a wheelchair and requires attendance by a nurse 7 days a week due to respiratory and other medical conditions. He is a high-profile, outspoken, and controversial white supremacist; many people hate him. He has been scheduled to appear in court in his home city, Los Angeles, as a defendant to answer charges involving murder and violating civil rights. He is currently free on a $1 million bond; the local police are not providing any protection.

In recent months, the city has been terrorized by a series of related homicides of white supremacist followers and the brutal beating of the client*****'s assistant. The media have speculated that several victims have been linked to your client and the police suspect a rival white supremacist group is vying for political power in the movement. The police, however, have no direct evidence of that theory.

In attendance at the courthouse will be news organizations, fundamentalist religious groups, white supremacist groups, and civil rights groups, all picketing what promises to be an emotional trial. Security at the client*****'s estate has been increased because of threats on his life, but your client likes to speak his mind to everyone, especially the press. He plans to make a grand entrance and wants to meet with the press on the courthouse steps.

You are the head of a security detail of eight individuals for this day*****'s work. You must plan the expedition from your client*****'s home and back after the day in court, and security for the client*****'s estate on the beach. The client*****'s home is in Laguna Beach, about an hour*****'s drive by freeway to the courthouse.

Prepare a 1,050- to 1,400-word planning and threat assessment paper dealing with the above scenario. The paper must address:

Concepts of threat and vulnerability assessment as they relate to personal and executive protection. Personal protection concerns related to transportation. Methods to consider when protecting large and small groups of people at work, social, or other events. Workplace violence. Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
