[EXCERPT] . . . .
When asked if she identifies as a refugee, Renuka replies that indeed she is. "I am a former refugee from Bhutan and came to Massachusetts in December of 2009." She adds, "Initially it was extremely difficult," due to factors like the language barrier and cultural shock. "I do not feel that the local resettlement agency helped me or my family as much as they were supposed to be helping. I learned many things on my own," Renuka Mishra points out, highlighting the importance of her husband's work. Yet, Renuka does appreciate the help she did receive from the resettlement agency and admits that she "can now understand that they have limited resources to support refugee families."Renuka and Thakur met in the refugee camp, when they were in high school together. "Now he is talking about coming back to Bhutan News Service this June and says he will be working there actively like in the past," Renuka states. Occasi

But I was never worried about my own safety because nobody knew about our affair," Renuka points out. "The relationship used to be kept secret," she says with a conspiratorial smile. Renuka is also proud of her husband for being an "exceptionally a well-versed" and admired person in "the intellectual circle." He is even not 30 years old, Renuka says, but has already accomplished so much. "I feel proud that he has done all this volunteer work. Aside from being involved in journalism, people might not know that he is a humorous individual; at home he creates a lot of fun." When Thakur writes stories about the sufferings of others he sheds tears because "he feels for others… READ MORE
