Families
3. Markets and Supermarkets

Response to first thread agree that families are changing along with changes in society. As more and more people work far from where they live, they spend less time at home with their families and more time away at work and in the car commuting to and from work. Working far from home can create a different family dynamic, in which parents and children do not know each other well or in which spouses also do not know each other well. There may be less… READ MORE

personal experiences you may have had that relate to these topics,
especially any involving a misunderstanding that was later
resolved or that you can now resolve.
Families

Markets and Supermarkets
Write the differences in going to the market, the differences in the markets/supermarkets themselves, the importance of meals and what food means to the culture, and ending with comments about what food you would say is “typical” of the region you grew up in…if there is a “typical” food that you can identify. This one needs to be in spanish. Like I stated above, it needs to be very basic spanish.
the next part is the reply to other peoples responses.
Here are three threads that need to be responded to(you can counter, support or supplement:
I feel like it is important to get together and have fun as a family. I know that it may be different for every family. My family is large and they reside in the same city so they see each other too often. But there are some of us who live far away and cant make it home as often. I make sure that I am getting together with my immediate family though. My mom, brothers, sisters, and dad. I guess because I am so busy and grew up away from the family I don't put as much emphasis on getting home often. I believe that more families are ending up like this because of the changes in society. People are working away from home now, and sometimes that is at the cost of family traditions.
major difference in shopping is visible between mother-in-law and my self. She lives in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and I live in the United States. She goes to the Colmado, or the Corner Store to get fresh food for the meals of the day, I go to the grocery store once a week and buy enough for the whole week.
Food is very important to my family; it is the heart of the occasion. The whole get together is planned around the type of food and preparation.
The typical food in my region is Mexican food, and I can diffidently identify with that due to my Mexican heritage
A family name can go all the way back into time. People can trace their heritage by looking back through a family tree. Most of us wonder sometimes about where we come from and who our ancestors were. The first place you start is with your name. Women tend to keep their maiden name when there are kids involved. Sometimes if a woman has no brothers to carry on the family name she will keep it when she gets married. Some women feel tied to their maiden name and therefore choose to use both when they get married. I don’t really have a nickname, but my name is DaShonna and people call me Shonna for short.
