PSC will promote extended families and neighborhood networks. Family members will be taught to respect each other and have mutual respect. Adults, children and youth will be taught to appreciate each other equally. Parents will be asked to be accessible to parent support networks which are extensive and detailed. Care which is accessible and dynamic

Youth risks and family risks will be identified early on. Services will be available for all forms of substance abuse problems. Systems will be put in place for education, supporting applicants, rehabilitation and prevention of substance abuse. The risky youth will be taken under consideration early on. Local residents will be taken for increased rehabilitation. Wrap around services will also exist here and will be called crisis line. Youth will be instructed against drugs and abuses via different methods.

PSC will aim to invest in building and supporting many centers for adult learning and development, on as well as off campus.

PSC will have top level commitment to social policy. PSC's will aim to have and promote environmental awareness that will be worth praising by the student body and other institutions.

For this project, you will be CREATING A SOCIAL CHANGE PLAN. You will need to think about a SOCIAL ISSUE, RELEVANT TO COLLEGE STUDENTS, that you are passionate about and DEVELOP A LEADERSHIP PLAN that helps you share your vision with others while empowering and engaging them to want to take action.

MAKE IT PERSONAL. Think about an issue you are passionate about. As a CURRENT OR PERSPECTIVE STUDENT LEADER, CHOOSE AN ISSUE ON CAMPUS that affects those you provide leadership to. Examples of campus issues can include such things as: using inclusive language on campus, eliminating rape culture, responsible alcohol consumption, green living, buying American products, ect. (USE NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY FOR AN ISSUE ON CAMPUS)

This is NOT A PAPER, BUT A PLAN. YOU WILL NEED TO LABEL EACH STEP AND COMPLETE EACH REQUIREMENT documented in the steps below. USE CHARTS WHEN REQUIRED OR IF NEEDED to help you conceptualize the step.

1. STEPS FOR CREATING A SOCIAL CHANGE PLAN

Step 1: Create a vision

Step 2: Create key messages

Step 3: Involve others

Step 4: Pick your targets, activities, and dates

Step 5: Generate short-term and long-term change

Step 6: Monitor, adjust, and reflect

2. CREATING A VISION

The first step in engaging a collective action in your vision for change is for you to know what it is that you would like to change. Think about what underlying issues you are trying to address. Your vision MUST BE YOUR INTENTIONS for a better future than what currently exists.

a. WRITE DOWN IN ONE SENTENCE, the social change you want to see.

b. DESCRIBE THE VISION OF SOCIAL CHANGE YOU WILL ADDRESS, as if it already happened. When creating this vision, make sure it follows the items below:

c. Be understood among a collective so others can share in the vision

d. Empower and engage people to want to take action

e. Be well defined and articulated

f. Be vivid, engaging, and expressive

3. CREATING KEY MESSAGES

The ability to articulate clearly your vision and the change you would like to see is important for *****buy-in.***** How you describe your vision to people through key messages will help you bring people into your efforts. You must help them recognize and see the vision. Key messages can be told using stories, quotes, or metaphors that describe the change you would like to achieve.

a. CREATE TWO OR THREE KEY MESSAGES THAT WILL SUPPORT YOUR VISION. Your key message should be inspiring, action *****, justify a need for the change, action *****, or ask others for help.

4. INVOLVING OTHERS

Now that you*****ve created a vision and key messages, you*****ll need people to help you deliver the message and work with you. When selecting people, use the following criteria:

a. You need to IDENTIFY people who need to hear the message

b. You need to IDENTIFY people who will support you in this message

c. You will need to IDENTIFY people who will help you influence others

When completing this step, think about CAMPUS RESOURCES that are ALREADY IN PLACE. List out the resources you identify and how they fall into the above categories

5. PICKING YOUR TARGETS, ACTIVIITIES, AND DATES

a. At this stage of your social change efforts, you should IDENTIFY WHERE YOU WANT YOUR EFFORTS TO BE TARGETED AND WHEN YOU WILL TARGET THESE EFFORTS. This is about the marketing strategy you will use to deliver your message.

b. In this step of social change, you will also need to IDENTIFY HOW YOU CAN KEEP YOUR EFFORTS MOVING.

c. To complete this step, CREATE A CHART TO HELP YOU IDENTIFY YOUR AUDIENCE, ACTIVITIES, AND DATES.

d. You need to identify those who will most likely want to or need to hear your message, how the message will be delivered such as events and activities that will help you reach your audience, and when you think your activities should be best completed.

e. Below is an example of what your chart can look like. Make sure when filling out your chart you are providing detail as to why you are placing your target, activity, and date in each cell. Remember change does not occur with just one event, you will need to create several activities and list their targeted audiences and dates. Provide no less than 4 targets when completing chart.

List when you think this activities would be best completed

Example: Reach out to freshmen who have demonstrated signs of alcohol abuse Example: Invite members of MADD to speak on campus about their experiences losing a loved one to drunk driving Example: In the first semester but before winter break.

6. GENERATING SHORT AND LONG TERM CHANGE

Creating social change can be a long, arduous journey. You may feel that what you are doing is not sufficient or enough to reach the vision you dreamed about. Keep in mind that social change efforts can take years and even generations to come to fruition. To complete this step, you will need to answer the following questions:

a. Over the first semester of the school year, what would be examples of social change progress for the issue you have identified?

b. Over the school year, what would be examples of social change progress for the issue you have identified?

7. Monitoring, adjusting and reflecting

One of the key and final steps in social change work is to monitor and adjust your strategies, key messages, or other components of your work as needed based on the responses you received. Often times, social change advocates are so busy and involved in the actual day to day work and activities that they forget to monitor and adjust what works and doesn*****t work and reflect on the process and their progress. You have to remember that when you mobilize your community, group, neighborhood, or organization to change and you start to see some change, you may not be able to use the same strategies or key messages. You*****ll need to constantly and consistently change your message to meet your audience*****s needs. Your vision may still stay the same, but the messages may be altered.

To complete this step, DESCRIBE HOW YOU WILL MONITOR, ADJUST, AND REFLECT your change efforts answering the following questions:

a. How will you know when change has happened?

b. How will you evaluate your work?

c. How will you make sense of your progress?
