The accuracy and speed of information sharing in any business is essential for getting new products introduced. Using cloud services to accelerate information sharing, geographically dispersed collaboration and real-time customer updates, small businesses are able to compete at speeds unmatched by larger competitors (Aljabre, 2012). Time-to-market, combined with the economic advantages of defined below, are further fuelling their adoption by SMBs globally today.

For many companies, purchasing software requires a very large up-front fee or initial license followed by relatively high yearly maintenance charges, as is shown in the analysis from Boston Consulting Group in Figure 4 below. Larger companies will budget for these costs with their capital expense (CAPEX) budget, while small businesses pay for cloud computing subscription fees on a monthly basis through their operating expense (OPEX) budgets (Walterbusch, Martens, Teuteberg, 2013). Cloud service providers are designing their business models to capitalize on the differences shown below in Figure 4 to gain more customers. It is a ve

Conclusion

The compelling economics of cloud computing, combined with the inherent time-to-market, stability, security and adaptability to very small, small and medium business needs continues to propel cloud services' adoption. This is clearly the case in the areas of collaboration and CRM cloud-based software which continues to accelerate in its adoption globally today. The implications for small businesses are very positive, as they can stay focused on growing their business, winning new customers and keeping existing ones, and investing their time in new product and services development. Cloud services are revolutionizing how SMBs are competing with their larger and more well-capitalized counterparts today as a result.
