September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks

The September 11 attacks have inflicted some significant changes, not only in the American nation but also in the personalities and natures of many Americans. The September 11 attacks can be defined as a series of well-coordinated series of four suicide attacks that were launched on the American nation on September 11, 2001. These are known to be the attacks that have changed the course of history embedding serious changes in the world (Lyon 56).

Effects of the attacks on the personality

The September 11 attacks are known as one of the most stressful events of the century. These are the kinds of events that play important roles in changing the normal course of life. These events may lead to the accidents and deaths of many loved ones causing a great negative effect on the family of loved ones. As the event of September 11 caused the deaths of many. Many firefighters died while saving those who were trying to escape the fire that caught the world trade center.

The events of September 11 have affected me personally by many ways. I have lived in the company of brave men. I have known many firefighters for a long time. Some of these have remained to be my ideal. There is no doubt about the fact that the roles that were played by the firefighters in the September 11 attacks are worth remembering. The lives that were saved by these firefighters still remember the way these firefighters worked diligently. The lives of many were in the hands of these firefighters. Many firefighters also lost their lives during this process. One of my dearest friends,

who were also a firefighter, lost his life during the act. An emergency was declared when attacks were launched on the world trade center on September 11. David was the firefighter I have known for many years. I had seen him fighting deadly fires on many occasions and he used to talk about most incidents on many occasions as well. I was with him on the day of September 11. The emergency call from the firefighting headquarters was the call on which many firefighters started preparing to save lives of those who were entrapped in the attacked building.

Even after a day, there was no sign of David returning back home based on which his family and I were worried. For days, weeks, and even months, many firefighters remained missing. Families, parents and friends of these firefighters were waiting anxiously for a sign that their beloved ones were all right. Then the list of those firefighters was released who had lost their lives during the course of saving the lives of those trapped in the fire of the building. David was one of those. He had died while saving the lives of his fellow citizens. The event and tragedy were sad and indeed many tears followed the events. The work that was done by these firefighters is to be remembered forever. The family of these firefighters will always remain proud on how their sons lost their lives while saving the lives of many. From this event and this tragedy, I have learned that the value of courage is much more than any other skill. The value of the courage to save the lives of the others is much more important and it will always be remembered.

Changes in U.S. since September 11 attacks

Many changes have been seen in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks. Significant changes have been seen on the political grounds in the U.S. since the attacks. There is no doubt about the fact that the attacks were one of the most terrible tragedies that was faced by the Americans. These were the terrorist attacks that challenged the Bush administration on the political grounds (Simpson 90). The attacks were an example of increased aggression and provocation. One of the main changes was seen in the case of foreign policy being followed by the Bush administration. After the September 11 attacks, one of the main challenges was when changes were needed in the foreign policy. Not only the foreign policy was changed, but also the Global War on Terror was launched by the Bush administration. The second important change is in the case of the attitudes of the American people. Very less tolerance is found in the American people nowadays. The Americans generally dislike the changes that were made in the U.S. foreign policy, especially when it comes to launching attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan (Peter 54).

The American government has moved to adopt total surveillance society since the September 11 attacks. There are a number of policies designed in the modern days by the U.S. government that have played great roles in threatening the civil liberties of the Americans. Some of these policies include USA Patriot act, USA Homeland security act, Total Information Awareness Program, and Domestic Security Enhancement Act. These acts are known to be working against the American judicial system (Briefel 67).

There are many issues with the American civil life. Since the September 11 attacks, all attention of the American government and the American society has remained focused on war against terrorism. There has been an increase in ignorance towards the other issues in America. Some of these issues include maintenance of clean air and environment, provision of safe and clean food, provision of unpolluted land to the Americans, making sure that global warming can be slowed down and can be prevented and the provision of clean water for the Americans. These are some of the core issues that have been pushed aside from being the center of attention in America. One of the main examples in these cases is that many environmental disputes and issues in America have been settled by the Bush administration by settling various different lawsuits (Kellner 34).

Another important change since the September 11 attacks is an increase in awareness of the weaknesses and failures in the critical American infrastructure. In the year 2002, for example, it was found out that security was one of the weakest areas of FBI (Lyon 38).

Effect on American relations with other countries

The Americans in the September 11 attacks have suffered great loss of lives. The attacks on the world trade center and the Pentagon left many people sad and in great pain all around the world. As mentioned, this event has had greater implications of the U.S. foreign policy, for international relations and particularly for the Sino-U.S. relations. One of the main facts that were highlighted after the September 11 attacks were in relation to the terrorism threat. The threat had its roots across the borders. The attacks also highlighted that no particular country was launching or planning the attacks, based on which there was a need to change the security systems. The needed security systems have thereby been studied by the American government, concluding the fact that the highly advanced security systems cannot be used or bought based on lesser resources. This is one of the main reasons of a positive impact on U.S. China relations. Before the September 11 attacks, China was viewed as a potential enemy. Since the attacks, changes have been seen, as now china would be considered a partner in dealing with terrorism (Peter 28).

Multiculturalism is one of the main changes seen in the case of U.S. foreign policy. International as well as all security issues was being addressed by the U.S. Foreign policy in a unilateral manner in the past (Kellner, 53).

US Russia relations have also undergone great impact since the September 11 attacks. War on terrorism in Afghanistan started when Russia became partners with U.S.. If this partnership had not taken place, it would undermine the security issues it… READ MORE
