To deal with these issues, a code of conduct will be created that highlights the expected employee behavior when it comes to patient safety. This will help to prevent any kind of misunderstandings and ensure that everyone knows the policy at the facility. The disposal of client information: This will state that all sensitive data should be destroyed (via shredding). Anyone who does not follow these procedures will be subject to immediate suspension and investigation. Once this concluded, is when the individual will be provided with a verbal and written warning (if this was an oversight). In the future, these kinds of infractions will result in termination. If the investigation reveals wrongdoing, the authorities will be contacted about prosecuting this individual. At the same time, they will be terminated from their position immediately. The signed disclosure agreement: This is when employees will state that they know the current policies and the consequences for violating them. During this process, is when HR managers will once again reiterate what will happen. They will then, have the employee sign and date the disclosure document. Once this takes place, is the point that there is no excuse for not following patient confidentiality standards. (Lowe, 2005, pp. 237 -- 252)
These areas will provide guidelines for preventing possible misuse of patient data. In the future, this will force employee to abide by different legal provisions when destroying this information. This is when St. John's will reduce the possibility of potential civil lawsuits and regulatory issues. (Lowe, 2005, pp. 237 -- 252)
Conclusion
Clearly, management needs to immediately change the procedures for destroying confidential patient information. At the same time, they must let IS personnel and the cleaning staff know that they are being monitored. Once this takes place, is when they need to introduce a series of workshops that will highlight the proper procedures (which are followed by a practical exam).
After this occurs, executives must have all employees sign a disclosure agreement. This is where they will state that: they understand the policies of the hospital and potential implications for not following these practices. It is at this point that managers can begin aggressively enforcing any kind of violations (through: immediate suspensions and investigations). If the person is cleared of all wrongdoing, they will be given a verbal and written warning. However, if they knowingly violated these polices. They will be subject to criminal prosecution and termination. Over the course of time, these provisions will prevent these issues in the future by: consistently monitoring and enforcing the new policies
