Resume Project

My strengths include that I am trained in both technical and interpersonal skills through my education and work experience. Among other interpersonal skills, I am fluent in five languages; this would be of great value to an employer. These skills will help me to success because many computer engineers neglect interpersonal skills or simply cannot apply them. Also, my language skills will set me about the competition if our other qualifications are similar.

My major weakness is that my previous employment, while related, is not as challenging as a position in computer engineering will be. As such, I lack some of the experience that many employers are looking for.

I have many opportunities, since computer engineering is a very active field. Many companies have openings that I could apply for, and these positions are all over the world. Because of my language skills, many positions at world offices for major companies like IBM and Microsoft are open to me. I also see that opportunities exist for me to be in a variety of computer engineering positions, since I have both professional and interpersonal experience and expertise. This also opens a lot of possibilities since I can choose where I would like to focus my attention from a variety of work opportunities.

Threats to my success include competition for the best positions and changing technology. Because jobs in computer technology are popular, a higher number of individuals have been pursuing degrees in computer engineering and similar fields, adding competition for all positions. Another threat is rapidly changing technology, which makes it more difficult to keep up

Ideal Company & Position

My ideal company is Microsoft, where I am currently qualify for a number of different positions with my current skill set. Microsoft has offices in many places around the world. Because of these many locations and its size, room for advancement is nearly limitless.

As a company, Microsoft takes care of its employees. Benefits and compensation are some of the best in the field. Additionally, it is a prestigious workplace, coveted by many individuals in the computer science and engineering field. While work expectations from the company are quite rigorous, I would find that sort of environment challenging and rewarding.

Interview Preparation 1

For an interview at Microsoft I would obviously need to dress professionally in a suit and tie, even though many of their employee dress codes are relaxed to business casual. Before attending the interview I would review Microsoft in the news and current events so that I seem educated on the company's current activities and can discuss them either casually or to answer interview questions. I would also spend time reviewing tips from others who have applied with Microsoft, available online. This would hopefully prepare me for the interview and the tests that some applicants must take to obtain a position.

Plan for Advancing to Dream Position

The major hurtle in reaching my dream job and resume from my current prospective job and resume is work experience and a track record in innovative software design. I know that I can work effectively in software development, as I have both the aptitude and the desire to meet the challenges within the fast-paced environment. Additionally, I know that I can work well in a development team. Since most software development companies use a team structure, I must establish myself within that team and prove myself as a hard worker, capable of innovation and new ideas.

Also in the team environment, I must distinguish myself as a leader so that I can later apply for a lead position. To do so I must be able to take charge of individual projects and lead them to success. I must try to take advantage of any opportunities that I have to take charge in the team environment without jeopardizing the team structure.

Though I already have considerable language skills, I may work to advance these skills and perhaps learn a new language. Because I have an aptitude for language that is apparent in my current fluencies, I may be able to gain an edge and be able to secure a position in any world office of Microsoft that I desire.
