In conclusion, Pure research is more focused on exploring an idea or a concept and attempting to derive a better understanding of it or a theory as to why something happens. Applied research is geared towards describing what happens when a theory derived from pure research is put into practice. At the same time, as the Nobel committee recognizes, it can sometimes be difficult to separate the notion of Pure research from Applied research because they often go together so well like a hand in a glove. In one sense, all pure research inevitably leads to Applied research as theories are tested for accuracy and all that is really needed is time. In another sense, however, sometimes the advancement of knowledge is not linked to developments in technology, markets, business, communications, or other areas of life and is simply presented for the sake of knowledge itself (Cresswell, 2007). Thus, while the two types of research have their own unique focuses and approaches and perform separate functions, they do go together invariably like peas in a pod, complimenting one another in the name of scientific inquiry and advancement.
