[EXCERPT] . . . .

As 'ambulance workers' have evolved into paramedics, there is a considerable need for the medical field to evolve in its regard of these skilled workers.

Conclusion:

Ultimately, this demand is not simply important because of the critical need for paramedics and the ambition to improve their working experience and commitment to the job. Perhaps more importantly, this demand underscores the importance of dispatching highly qualified, well-trained and fully committed paramedics to emergency settings or first-responder calls. Paramedics are typically the first medical professionals to make contact with the patient. And from the perspective of an individual requiring immediate medical attention, the attending paramedic is one's first point of contact with the healthcare system. It is important that this perspective be justified and validated by ensuring that this point of contact actually extends into a connection with a broader field of medical treatment. While independence and autonomy often imply the ability for an industry to function with speed, efficiency and dynamism, the contrary is true for Australia's paramedics. Legal refinement, centralization, unionization and quality control are all critical if this occupation is to attain its rightful status as a critical medical profession.
