Just as the Kiwanis Club does not explicitly state how its social responsibilities and strategies were developed, it does not state an outright social initiative. It's stated objective is to respond to the needs of the community, emphasizing youth involvement, with a goal of helping to properly shape future generations of leaders (Kiwanis Club, 2012). What could be termed its social initiative, then, is to ensure that today's youth grown into the type of adult citizen that is beneficial to society and to the community's cultural progress (Kiwnais Club, 2012; Minkler, 2005). This type of social initiative is rather broad and abstract, and can be difficult to implement or to measure success in, however there is not a clear social initiative of this group that is more concrete (Minkler, 2005).

There are many ethical and moral implications of the Kiwanis Club and its activities on the club, its members, and on the larger Ocean Beach, San Diego community that the club serves. First, there is the clear ethical endorsement of the stated objective of the Kiwanis Club of creating better leaders for tomorrow through youth development today -- by definition, a "better" leader would be more advantageous to the community than a "not better" leader (Kiwanis Club, 2012). The definition of "better," however, would lead to the club into a very gray ethical if its actions were more pervasive and all-encompassing; that is, if the Kiwanis Club were engaged in regular education, the group would need to ensure that what it valued and promoted in leadership trhugh its education were actually in keeping with community desires and values (Minkler, 2005). Given the rather low level of the group's activities and their innocuous nature, however, it is unlikely that there is a real ethical threat here. Other ethical and moral implications include, as noted above, the threat of the company's departure and the creation of a void in the services and support it provides, and the ethical need to ensure effective use of donated funds received.

The Kiwanis Club of Ocean Beach, San Diego is like many other community organizations. Relatively small and run by a just a tiny fraction of the community's population, it nonetheless provides many opportunities and advantages to its community. By creating a dependence, the Kiwansi Club has also created a clear responsibility for itself in this community.
