Organizational Culture be Changed

Organizational Culture

Over the last several decades, the issue of organizational culture has been increasingly brought to the forefront. Part of the reason for this, is because globalization has caused most firms to face increasing amounts of competition. In order to adapt with these changes, they must be able to transform the work environment inside the organization itself. To determine if the culture inside an entity can be changed requires discussing how a company can adjust to the new initiatives. This will be accomplished by comparing opposing views on this subject with each other. Once this occurs, is when we will be able to see what it takes to successfully implement new changes inside any organization.

The Organization's Culture can never be transformed

When most people hear about some kind of change taking place, they will often assume that this will provide the organization with long-term benefits. This is because, there is the assumption that everyone is willing to do more to embrace the adjustments that need to be made to help the business to be successful. ating how difficult it is for any kind of long-term changes to be introduced inside the workplace. The reason why, is they are creating a desire to want to transform the work environment. Once this occurs, is when everyone is willing to do more to embrace these changes. (Robbins, 2010, pg. 543)

As a result, these factors are highlighting how implementing any kind of organizational transformations can be difficult. This is because the above elements rarely exist in conjunction with one another to create some kind of long-term change. What is happening is one or a combination of these different factors, will create a shift in the thinking of executives and employees (such as a financial crisis). Yet, there are other areas that could have an effect on the strategy over the long-term (i.e. The firm is larger and there is strong organizational culture in place). This can have a negative impact on the company. The reason why, is because the other elements will work against any kind of desires to introduce changes. As managers will reluctantly embrace them; while thinking that they want to see a return of to the policies of the past. This is when any kind transformations will have limited short to medium term effects. Then, when the company turns around is when executives will go back to the same kind of culture that existed prior to these events. (Greenwood, 1996, pp. 1022 -- 1054) (Reichers, 1997, pp. 48 -- 59)

Evidence of this, can be seen with the fact that 75% of managers are unhappy about any kind of new changes to the operating environment of their firm. This is because they feel that these transformations are designed to provide upper management with some kind of benefit. While, they do not receive anything in return and they are not supporting these changes. Once this occurs, it means that the odds increase that any… READ MORE
