This was evident because he claimed I was shouting at him, which later led to communication difficulties.

It is apparent that when the nurse claimed I had shouted back at him, he was defending himself. In addition, he might also have perceived that I looked down on him. Into the bargain, he might have perceived that I made him feel less, especially when he claimed I was out to embarrass him in front of the surgeon. Therefore, this could have contributed to ineffective communication that is why he might have perceived that I felt he was incompetent to make him lose the job. Such a perception made communication difficult, and a lack of collaboration made it even worse (Robinson et al., 2010). Although I was upset, I did not raise my tone towards the nurse and my questions were straightforward concerning the current situation.

From the case situation, it is evident that communication is vital for success in the healthcare field. Additionally, communication makes people understand each situation and provide lasting solutions. However, professionals should recognize that vocal elements including tone, volume and inflection contribute to the understanding of the message conveyed (Marshall, Harrison and Flangan, 2009). That is why the nurse perceived that I was aiming at embarrassing him in front of the surgeon. This suggests that all health practitioners should show sensitivity to non-verbal clues and their significance in communication. Effective communication is significant to achieving high quality care in the healthcare field.

In conclusion, it is important to encourage proficiency in communication skills in the healthcare field. Owing to the fact that nurse-to-nurse communication is a significant element to achieve high quality care and patient safety, the management of various hospitals should design learning practices concerning education (Urseny, 2007). The case provided is critical, the nurse had ignored checking important patient information and the fact that the patient had a cardiac history, shows that he was completely negligent. However, the lack of communicating and perceiving that when I inquired this, I had degraded him, shows that he was inadequately trained when it comes to communication.
