What changes would you like to see in the future that you believe could make an impact on advancing theoretical thinking in nursing? Please be specific in identifying changes and influences. Until lately, the communication that has been put forward is that since women are biologically diverse, and thus they are less than men. Nursing has notoriously been a vocation for women, and the characteristics that women should strive for and uphold are characterized in nursing. Consequently, women have believed there to be a similarity between social expectations of women and nurses. The self-fulfilling prediction of what teachings women should have and how they should act as women and nurses has remained. In the past women who went into the nursing profession had acknowledged strongly with the roles of wife and mother and moreover have believed that nursing would ready them for the normal roles of women or that the nursing jobs was a way to earn a livelihood (Meleis, 2007)

The function of women has advanced in recent years and there is no longer the quantity of stereotypes that there used to be. Responsibilities are no longer as gender exact as they used to be. Women now hold jobs that used to be traditionally held by men and men are doing more jobs that used to be traditionally those of women, such as nursing. They have accomplished this in clinical nursing research by seeking theoretical understanding from the nursing viewpoint and at the same time applying theories that have been developed in other disciplines. Their generative, reconstructive, and revisional advances along with the implementation of the empirical research customs have resulted in knowledge creation in nursing that has been very different from the efforts that have been based on the grand theories that exist (Kim, 2010).

In order to improve theoretical thinking in nursing it is vital to develop critical thinking in nursing education. Essential to and intrinsic in this experience at the graduate level is the improvement of critical thinking. Current research has provided data that could persuade the development and achievement of future preceptorship programs in graduate nursing education in order to further advance innovative strategies for the improvement of critical thinking in the preceptorship understanding at the graduate level. In order to develop critical thinking, key things such as respect, flexibility, frankness, security, faith and a true character of encouraging cynicism on the part of the preceptor have been found to impact on whether or not students moved forward in their thinking. Critically thoughtful teachers will help students by providing a model of passionate skepticism.
