Comparison

The differences experiences between Russia and the UK in terms of their problems of national minorities are stark, however it is clear that the impulses that encourage such idealism are similar. The sheer sizes of the problem are the most glaring difference between the UK and Russia. Russia's problem spans across all of Asia and Eastern Europe as the Soviet Union's former grasp was quite extensive and therefore so is this issue.

The UK's status within the globe rests more within its financial and intellectual capabilities than Russia's. National minority problems that threaten this power source of the UK can also have widespread effect. The Russian problem with national minorities appears to have more of a violent tone. The violence that have been associated with many of the rebel uprisings in the past years in the former Soviet states has been staggering.

The ideals and value systems of these two nations also are based and rooted in different qualities and each has their own unique history and place within the world. Simes (2014) wrote Russia's officials have not yet found an effective approach to maintaining domestic security -- one of the most basic functions of government. Russia has over 10 million Muslim citizens and while the vast majority are moderate and peaceful, many -- especially in the North Caucasus -- resent Russian rule. oid incorporation into the Russian empire in the nineteenth century and others faced severe repression, forced relocation, and internal exile under Soviet leader Josef Stalin."

The UK's problem is dealing with unwanted visitors who have no historic claim to the land and rights offered by this nation. The social causes of immigration are the root issue for the UK where Russia's problem is somewhat reversed. Eventually cooperation or warfare must arise out of these situations. To remedy both of these problems, new attitudes must be taken on the ideals and benefits of diversity, immigration and cross-cultural contamination. Diversity, like everything else needs to be balanced and aligned with strategic goals if they are to be used as an asset. The danger in this mixing of people and oppressing those who choose not to be, will be the source of strife in both of these areas unless a wise and holistic solution is offered in this case.
