[EXCERPT] . . . .

5.The grading measurement represented by letter values (ABC) is made on the nominal level. The measurement used by means of the numerical values 1-20 is made on the ranking level. The percentage measurement is made on the ordinal scale, and the pass/fail measurement on the ratio scale.

The least potential for error is represented by the percentage grading scale, since there are more values that can be assigned to each student's specific performance. The others all pose limitations in terms of value to be assigned or the way in which performance is measured.

6.a.Summated scale score is 26. (All the values are summed)

6.b.Average composite scale score is 6.5.

6.c.None of the items needs to be reverse-scaled, because all the results appear to be trustworthy.

Zikmund Chapter 14

1.The word attitude refers to an enduring disposition or a consistent response to aspects of the world. This response always occurs in a certain way. There are three components to attitudes, including the affective, the cognitive, and the behavioral. The affective refers to the emotions, the cognitive to awareness or knowledge, and the behavioral to predisposition to action. Because attitudes are latent constructs, it is not possible to observe them directly.

2.Rating represents assigning values to an item or concept according to the extent of truth or feeling. One might, for example, rate one's enjoyment of a show on a scale of 1 to 10. Ranking occurs when items are compared according to their relationship with each other. In other words, various similar items might be ranked from best to wor

st. Attitudes are perhaps best measured in terms of rank, where a certain attitude regarding an item can be measured according to its intensity. Because attitudes are such arbitrary constructs, ranking can provide a better measure of these.

4. There is insufficient information in the sources to answer this question. I do not now how to use the SAS or SPSS tools with reverse coding. If you can send some more information, I will complete this question.

8.a. Polar Opposite. This scale is effective in determining the attitude of respondents, since the purpose of the scale is to determine one or another opinion. It does not, however, determine the extent of the opinion; a person's measure of agreement or disagreement may vary.

8.b. Semantic Differential Scale. The scale determines the extent of the respondent's attitude between the two polar opposites of "Very Unfavorable" and "Very Favorable." The advantage of this scale is that it does not only determine attitude, but also the intensity of the attitude towards the proposal.

8.c.Likert Scale. The scale assigns a numerical value to the attitude intensity of the respondent. This provides the opportunity for statisticians to conduct analyses regarding the specific level of agreement among respondents.

10.A Likert scale usually includes items that are either positive or negative, but also a "neutral" item. Hence, it is helpful to have a scale item that is a mixture of positive and negative responses; usually there is only one of these.
