A recent research particularly reports that 41.5% of kids of postnatal depressed mothers encountered depression by the age of 16 when compared to 12.5% of kids of non-depressed mothers. Another research illustrates that maternal depression is amidst the two major factors to differentiate young kids having high levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms from other kids. Given that maternal depression is perhaps amidst the most empirically supported risk aspects for adolescent and child depression, experts that work with youth and families are no longer capable of "sitting on the sidelines" without introducing targeted prevention attempts with depressed mothers and their kids (Rishel, 2012). The aim of this paper is to draw an existing literature to stress potential "pathways to prevention" for the offspring of depressed mothers. Suggestions for introducing these pathways grounded on family life cycle phase, contact point and service setting are given and discussed. Recommended mechanisms through which mother-child interactions conveys risk from depressed mother to child entail maternal modeling of depressed behavior, cognitions, and affect; minimized positive strengthening for the kid and incoherent discipline practices; development of a shaky child bond; and an indirect impact of maternal depression (Rishel, 2012).

Growing Up with a Mother with Depression: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis

Child's 'logical prowess' making is one of the most significant themes which surfaces in this study. In as much as kids require information to give meaning to whatever is taking place around them, there are also risks associated with obtaining too much data, as this may burden the kid. In addition to allowing an understanding of the behavior of the parent, making sense of the parental depression as well as their personal encounters is also associated with coping with this parental state. In a qualitative study, the manner in which kids and adolescents attempt to find a daily rhythm through first observing the moods and behaviors of the parents, and later adjusting their own behaviors in reaction to their observations is described (Parys, Smith, & Rober, 2014). Another important theme in this research regarding children's and adolescents' encounters of parental depression is care-provision and sensitivity. For a kid, one specific manner of going about hardship at home is active engagement in the parent's emotional life. Kids may feel the weaknesses in their parent and attempt to act in a manner that they cause minimal nuisance or have an active say in the family (Parys, Smith, & Rober, 2014).

Depression is still the major cause of disability internationally and is ranked as the fourth leading contributor to disease. Whereas depression affects 121 million individuals globally of all sexes, ages, and backgrounds internationally, it is twice more frequent in women than in men, with highest frequencies occurring in childbearing years (Hendricks & Liu, 2013). The articles spoke of the major causes of depression in mothers and its effects on the child. There exists a strong emotional connection between a child and a mother and when that bond is in danger, the kid suffers from numerous health and cognitive issues. It is very important that public health attempts globally aim to raise awareness of depression's risk factors, incidence, treatments, as well as outcomes. A multidisciplinary approach could improve our understanding of the etiology, pathophysiology, together with contributing factors of maternal depression on the outcomes of the child (Hendricks & Liu, 2013).
