[EXCERPT] . . . .

An offshoot effect of the Great Recession was the 99% movement (among other societal and cultural arcs and movements) that focused on how businesses are supposedly turning the screws on their employees and society in general in the form of paying minimum wage (or at least lower wages than should be paid and the same goes for benefits) and this can affect medical organizations as well. For example, AIG was on the wrong end of a lot of ire in society and they were/are an insurance firm. While not a health insurance firm (they deal more with life insurance), it is not a big jump to health insurance and the recent changes to the law have put a lot of pressure on the health insurance firms to keep premiums down but shareholders are pulling the other way and demand that profits stay up. There are even doomsday-types that say that health insurance companies will not survive the Affordable Care Act. While much of that is most certainly demagoguery, it is something that medical firms and outfits must deal with and address. The best way to diffuse such problems is to be as transparent and honest as possible without volunteering too much and/or causing information overload. It can be a hard balance to strike but medical firms and their public relation departments often know the best way to go.

incorrect information. On top of that, just a simple lack of information can create a vacuum that people will tend to fill with their own facts and figures. However, firms should also be wise to keep their cards at least a little close to the vest when the circumstances and outcomes demand it. Even so, firms must be careful to not be caught (perceived or otherwise) deceiving the public and/or its employees.
