leadership concepts and strategies in decision making for the provision of high quality nursing practice in a variety of settings?Nursing inherently calls for a leadership orientation. The day-to-day challenges of working in a fast-paced environment where individual lives depend on the knowledge, proficiency and attentiveness of a nursing staff require personnel who are capable of making decisions and acting on instinct. Additionally, the occupation calls for nursing professionals who are capable of establishing a positive working dynamic with fellow nurses, physicians and patients. These demands call for one who is comfortable taking a lead role when circumstances call for such initiative. Such is to say that in nursing, one may be inclined to incorporate such leadership principles as strong communication and the capacity to coordinate the efforts of other personnel, even if one is not inherently vested with authority. Accordingly, Anderson (2010) asserts that especially in the nursing context, "a leader often doesn't have delegated authority. The "power" that the leader has acquired has come informally from others in the group. Leaders focus on empowering others, as well as motivating, inspiring, and influencing others." (Anderson, p. 1)
Write how you integrate evidence-based practice to promote critical thinking and clinical reasoning in the delivery of nursing care for clients.
While it is important for nurses to be capable of thinking on their feet and acting with decisiveness, this cannot be facilitated without the presence of a healthy base of knowledge where best practice is concerned. This is where evidence-based practice enters into the provi

3. Evaluate the influence of nursing practice, nursing education and nursing research in the delivery of healthcare.
The evolution of the nursing professional does not occur overnight. In order for the nursing professional to function as an effective provider of healthcare, he or she must not only be educated in the basic principles of the field but must also be engaged in something of an ongoing professional development process. This denotes the influence of practice, education and research in the nurse's capacity to effectively deliver healthcare needs. While there are standard procedures which drive the profession, the knowledge base required to be an effective nurse is always growing. Therefore, we find that the practice, the field of education and the process of conducting research in this discipline are all dedicated to refining practice so that nursing remains reflective of our growing knowledge in the areas of healthcare and medicine.
4. Evaluate the influence of healthcare policy at local, state and federal levels.
Importantly, the nursing profession -- and healthcare in general -- is governed by a complex set of regulations and laws that are designed to maintain certain standards of practice, to administrate the professional behavior of healthcare personnel and to protect the interests of patients. Especially at the state and federal level, a wide range of legal codes exist as a way of regulating the many parties which are engaged in the healthcare system. From insurance companies, pharmaceutical firms and hospital administration staffs to private doctors, surgeons and nurses, all participants in the field must adhere to policy conditions in the process of making decisions, rendering treatment options and interacting with patients.
5. Write how you integrate emerging information systems, processes, technologies, and methods to improve healthcare practice outcomes.
One of the ways in which the healthcare field is changing especially rapidly is in the area of technology and information systems. Increasingly, it is incumbent upon nurses not just to understand the medical and humanitarian implications of their work but also to be capable of interacting with evolving technologies that are ever more common in the field. Hospitals and other larger facilities rely today on the compilation and protection of complex and layered patient information. Navigation of this information is tantamount to a nurse's ability to retrieve and utilize patient information which might be critical to health outcomes.
6. Write how you collaborate with consumers, members of the multi-disciplinary health team, and others to improve management of diverse clients in a variety of settings.
Nurses rarely if ever work alone. In fact, in many ways, the nurse is a liaison between a wide range of parties. The nurse will function as a nexus point for doctors, specialists, surgeons and patients. In a multi-disciplinary context, this means that a nursing professional will achieve a successful dynamic between a diverse array of interactants. Overman et al. indicate that the primary care nurse is perhaps the most important provider in this context, working as the most direct and frequent line of contact to the patient. Overman et al. tell that "in the hospital setting, a primary nursing-care delivery system enhances the nurse's role in supporting the goal of patient recovery. Primary nursing places the accountability and responsibility for planning, administering, and evaluating the care of the liver transplant patient with the primary nurse. The transplant nurse acts as a key link in the communication network within the multidisciplinary team, and effective communication is essential in the care of the liver transplant patient." (Overman et al., p. 690)
7. Write how you integrate health promotion and disease prevention strategies to improve health outcomes for clients?
One of the most important things that a nurse professional can do for a patient is ensure that he or she does not leave the care of a hospital or healthcare facility without sufficient knowledge of the condition for which treatment has been received. That is to say that the nurse will play a critical role in educating patients before they are independent from the health system. By arming patients with knowledge, education and self-care strategies concerning their respective conditions, nurses can go a long way in helping to prevent recurrence or emergence of certain conditions. As Overman et al. point out, "for achievement of a life-style of independence after transplantation, the patient is assisted by the nurse, who provides instruction in such areas as diet, medications, monitoring of vital signs, and record keeping." (Overman et al., p. 690)
8. How you incorporate professional conduct, ethical, and legal responsibility for nursing practice.
Ethics is certainly one of the most critical areas determining one's personal suitability to the nursing occupation. Providing patients with the best possible care depends significantly on the nurse's possession of a strong internal compass for ethical decision-making. In light of the difficulties imposed by nursing shortages and difficult work scheduling, nursing autonomy is increasingly sought after in many healthcare facilities. According to MacDonald (2002), "individual nurses' capacity for autonomous action depends on a number of features of the health care institution within which they practice. In an article on accepting and refusing assignments, Judith Powers notes the importance of an 'enabling practice environment', which 'supports autonomous nursing giving nurses the opportunity, the authority, and the accountability to identify and solve practice related problems'." (MacDonald, p. 194) This means that nurses must be armed with strong individual senses of that which is ethical appropriate in the field and that which is not.
9. Show how you evaluate the nursing process in managing nursing practice for culturally diverse clients across the life span.
If one wishes to be enter into this profession under… READ MORE
