The importance of technology on press freedom relates on the way technology has made it simpler for an audience to engage journalists. Through social media, journalist can communicate and get timely feedback from audiences. Social media through the internet make journalist have an in-depth approach on news. Critical and timely feedbacks from listeners make journalist correct their mistakes. This, therefore, increases the credibility of news and fosters accuracy. Moreover, it is a requirement for a journalist to understand and have a new skill to handle new gadgets and activities.

Roles of international organizations

In countries that have press freedom challenges like Cuba, it is imperative that there are organizations protecting the rights of journalist. In media fraternity, there are organizations on a local and international level, which consider issues of journalists. Some of these organizations are Reporters Without boundaries, Freedom house, UNESCO and Committee to protect Journalists. Recent attacks, deaths and threats on journalist on a global scale, have made such organization partner with states in order to end impunity against journalists. Reporters without boundaries on the year 2012, report that 89 journalist had lost their lives on the line of duty (Reese 173-187). Most of those journalist died in their land of origin rather than when reporting on foreign land.

It is true that journalists' death affects the fundamental freedom of expression of citizens, as well as on democracy. There is a need for international organizations and governments to join forces in ending impunity against journalists. These organizations have been on the forefront protecting the rights of citizens, as well as that of journalists. UNESCO and the Committee for Protecting Journalists are the most vocal in this time. UNESCO's tasks in countries like Cuba are to raise awareness on the safety of journalist and in assisting governments manage journalist cases.

The organization urges governments to investigate, intimidation and threats against journalist in nations affected. The Committee to Protect Journalist, on the other hand, uses its tools in tracking issues of press freedom. These tasks come a result of research, fact-finding activities, first hand information and acquisition of data all around the world. The organization further shares information with other organizations concerning deaths of journalists and detentions (Reese 173-187). Activities of such organizations assist journalists and assist preserve freedom of the press all over the world.

Influence of globalization on press freedoms

The internet and faster means of transportation has influenced press freedom. In countries like Cuba integration of internet, influence on its citizens' culture and thus affect their perception. Globalization has made the earth a small village. It is not a miracle to find a person in the deepest part of Africa being conversant of daily events of Europe. Digitalization of Television, radio and internet frequencies have made it easy for press freedom. Mainstream media has a positive influence on the culture of people, as well as a negative implication.

The importance of globalization on media relates to a better understanding of different cultures, as well as information flow. However, the negative consequences of mainstream media include infringement of other freedoms. Like in Cuba, the government is afraid of the negative implication of globalizing press freedom. In other regions, press freedom infringe on religious aspects of a community. The most important aspect of globalization to media is on information flow, and it also assist in breaking cultural barriers that have negative impacts on commerce.

Recommendations for improving freedom of the press

To benefit future media professionals and journalists, there should be considerable efforts from all quarters. Governments, organizations, international bodies, as well as private citizens need to come together and protect journalist against impunity and violence. Some of strategies to use include research undertakings to test a variable that can have considerable benefit on press freedom. Organizations, on the other hand, need to concentrate on missions that foster journalist' integrations in a society. Additionally, an organization, which protect press freedoms need to write protest letters to those countries with poor press freedom rating, and finally countries and organization need to have conferences where members of the public and press practitioners may get training (Mukherjee 339)

Conclusion

Freedom of the media is a very vital component to the preservation of human rights of members of the journalism fraternity. These rights are entrenched in law and those of international organizations. There has been threatening reports over print media, radio and the internet of how members of the press have lost their lives while covering stories. Some of these individuals have lost their lives due to state influence and corrupt machinery. However, there have been strides by various organizations to minimize these issues, and this can relate to efforts by UNESCO and other organizations who have championed for the rights of media personalities.
