This position is position in the Excepted Service and will

be filled with a permanent mixed tour work schedule. A mixed tour

of duty is a combination of full time, part time and intermittent

work schedules which allows the best utilization of resources based

on the work requirements of the organization. When there is an

increase or decrease in the workload, your work schedule is subject

to change and your scheduled hours are subject to being reduced

without the need to follow reduction-in-force procedures.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Top

The Third Officer is fourth in command of the vessel and is

responsible for navigation and other watch stander duties. As

Navigation Officer, assures that navigation equipment, publications,

and charts are maintained and updated. Incumbent may be assigned

collateral duties in support of the management of the vessel. Stands

watches, plans and directs work assignments; trains personnel and

arranges for training of subordinates; administers formal

performance evaluation process; assures proper timekeeping and leave

planning. Performs other mission-related duties assigned, including

duties related to the safety of the vessel and/or personnel.
