Research Questions

How does AU resolve and manage conflicts in Sub-Sahara Africa?

Does the organization (AU) apply the integrated conflict resolution method?

Has the AU ever used the integrated conflict resolution in its history?

The Significance of the Study

The AU has fallen short of its initial well intended objectives of reducing conflict in Africa to the bare minimum. Their limited skilled staffs have struggled to keep the organization on its feet. Member states are usually split on how to react to the conflicts that arise in Africa. Such shortcomings emanate from three challenges. The organization has attempted to restore sanity and establish peace and security amid widespread warring and hostile conflict thirsty communities. The AU does not have sufficient leverage sources to manage conflict in Africa; let alone prevent it. They have lost focus whenever they try to reform by concentrating on side shows such as how the organization relates with other regional and overseas agencies. This begs for research on the possibility for an integrated approach to conflict resolution as an effective tool in Africa (Abonyi, 2010; Williams, 2011)..
