The AHRQ's Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) program provides a national benchmarking database (Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development, 2002). The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's mission is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. AHRQ supports research that helps people make more informed decisions and improves the quality of health care services.
AHRQ does this by improving care safety and quality by developing successful partnerships and generating the knowledge and tools required for long-term improvement. The central goal of the firm's research is to provide measurable improvements in health care in America, gauged in terms of improved quality of life and patient outcomes. The aspects mentioned above are particularly important given the rising important of health care to the overall American economy. Lower costs, providing ample research in which to make operations more efficient, and streamline processes all help the overall process of long-term care. Lower costs provide a better means of preserving life while also alleviating the burden on younger generations to subsidize older generations (Levsey, 2007).
CMS
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services work with health care providers to ensure quality, efficient and cost-effective care for those who are older adults, disabled or low income. CMS establishes reimbursement levels and standards of care and works to modernize the health care industry, such as by implementing electronic record keeping. CMS provides health care coding for diseases and treatment used throughout the health care industry and determines if treatment is medically necessary and appropriate. CMS also administers the Medicare program and works in partnership with state governments to administer Medicaid, the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), and health insurance portability standards. The emphasis that is placed on lower income families is very important in regards to long-term care. By emphasizing lower income families, the burden placed on society is partially alleviated. For one, society will have to pay less to finance the health care of lower income families. In addition, low income families will become more cognizant of their health patterns and become more proactive in their overall prevention
