However the Turkey seldom figured in Islamic or Muslim disclosure, the nation remained five centuries as the center of the Muslim world until Mustafa abolished the Caliphate-office of the successors to Prophet Mohammed, the supreme politico-religious office of Islam, and symbol of the Turkey sultan's claim to world leadership of all Muslims was abolished. Despite the fact that 98% of the Turkey's populations were officially Muslim, only 20% of the population practiced Muslim (Walker, Erol & Erol, 2006). The Turkish government on the other hand, had more freedom to pursue policies which attacked Islamic Institutions.
