[EXCERPT] . . . .
The strategy recommendation for Exxon, therefore, is to weigh the balance of its internal strengths and its external threats and see which is greater. If threats are determined to be greater than internal strength can withstand, a reorganization of the corporate mission may be in need. The 21st century is embarking on a mission of global responsibility that includes community and environmental awareness and it is critical that Exxon employ the clean energy standards that consumers are demanding or risk losing its market. How this can be applied according to Exxon's business model is something that its research and development divisions may have to answer. The TWOS analysis which focuses on externals as opposed to internals, suggests that the external threats to Exxon's corporate future are significant and need to be addressed. Technology usage is shifting away from oil and gas consumption (solar, wind energy usage is rising). Exxon is currently weak in these departments and should invest some working capital in mining these fields in order to see if there is a possibility for developing an Exxon electrical or "green" energy division to appeal to consumers. This dynamic shift is the recommended course of action for Exxon.
