[EXCERPT] . . . .
That is why end of life issues should be met with increased awareness, communication, and proper discussion of options and well as choices. Conclusions
End of life is something that should be considered as an important part of life's decisions before it happens. Advanced care plans can provide much needed assistance in deciding what to do should a person and die and what steps to take. People have numerous options in terms of end of life. And for those who are suffering from a terminally ill disease, there is the option of assisted suicide and even euthanasia in certain parts of the world and certain states within the United States.
Although there are some legal to assisted suicide and euthanasia, it can still be an option for those wishing to avoid expensive medical bills and painful treatments. This is because what is also important to consider is how the families will react and deal with the person's death. Another thing to consider is a proxy in case the person is or becomes mentally unfit to make decisions. In these situations the proxy can refuse medical treatment and plan end of life care. Nurses and other medical staff are essential parts of palliative care and should be a part of the team concerned with end of life treatment.
