This questionnaire is evidentiary of the fact that I have realized great benefits from this module. It is evident that my personal awareness has increased. I can see a marked change in my personal awareness as it relates to the manner in which I conduct myself and the manner in which a see others. This practice in self-awareness has taught me to review my own behaviors and habits before I look to point the finger at the behaviors and habits of others. In doing this I am able to improve what I perceive as the negative behaviors that I have while also strengthening my positive behaviors. This increased level of self-awareness has assisted me greatly as it relates to personal development.

In addition I also have a greater appreciation and understanding of diversity and the benefits that can be realized when people from different backgrounds work together to achieve common goals. This module has taught me the importance working with people who do not always share my same beliefs. It has taught me that everyone's opinion is needed and is valuable. I have also learned the importance of questioning and listening skills as they will assist me in making informed decisions throughout my life.

This module has also allowed me to realize and appreciate community work and the benefits that can be realized through active involvement at the community level. This module has taught me that it is incumbent upon each generation to do what it can to better the communities to which we belong. Community involvement not only helps the people in the community but it also assist in the personal development of the community worker. This personal development involves seeing the needs of others and using personal skills to ensure that these needs are met.

This questionnaire illustrates that I have several strengths and weaknesses. My strengths tend to be associated with completing tasks and making sure that the job is done to the best of my ability. These strengths are evident as it relates to various aspects of life including learning, work, and community involvement. I understand the importance of a job well done and I want to be successful in carrying out the tasks for which I am responsible.

As it relates specifically to academic endeavors I tend to be consistent and thorough with my studies. I take my studies very seriously as I understand that education is a critical aspect of my personal development. Education will allow me to develop socially and economically, which are important in becoming a contributing member of society.

In addition, I am a leader that understands the importance of have having positive traits as it relates to character and morality. I also understand and appreciate the need for diversity in the workplace and in the learning environment. Diversity is important because it aids us in understanding various viewpoints so that the needs of all can be addressed. In the workplace diversity is an essential component in gaining and maintaining a competitive advantage. In the educational environment diversity allows us to also see and understand different viewpoint and be "educated" concerning the norms and practices of different cultures (Abes, 2005).

In addition to my strengths, I also have some weaknesses. The first of which is my patience level. Under some circumstances I tend to get frustrated and I lack the patience necessary to deal with the circumstance that I am confronted with. Part of my impatience is actually associated with wanting things done correctly and in an orderly fashion.

However, when working with various people who are not always on the same page patience is necessary and it can be a struggle for me.

Another weakness is my tendency to not be helpful. In some cases I just feel as though people need to carry out there own tasks instead of depending on others. However, I recognize there are times when I need help and I appreciate it when people come to my assistance. I also recognize that being helpful ensures that goals are met and projects are finished on time.

Finally, there are times that I have trouble articulating my point-of-view -- making it difficult for people to understand what I am thinking. This is problematic in every aspect of life because it impedes upon my ability to communicate effectively. This weakness is also connected to my other weaknesses of impatience and not being helpful.

The three areas that I need to work on are communication, patience and helpfulness. It is apparent to me that if I confront the difficulty that I have communicating these other two weaknesses will also improve. To improve my communications skills I will attempt to carefully consider what I am attempting to convey to the receiver and ask the receiver if they understand what I am attempting to convey.

As it relates to feedback from my peers they have told me that I lack patience sometimes and that I am not as helpful to others as I could be. This is consistent with the answers to the questionnaire and what I know about my own weaknesses. I must commit myself to working on correcting these issues so that I can succeed as it relates to personal development.

Overall I do feel empowered to make better decisions regarding my personal development. It is evident that personal development is a life long journey and time and experience greatly effect personal development. This module has assisted me in acquiring the skills necessary for personal Development.

Assessment II

There are many issues that arise in the developing of people. Communication is a major obstacle as it relates to the development of people.

At the current time the developing of people is greatly influenced by communication through technology and the virtual nature of the workplace and the world we live in (Colky et al.). Technology becomes an issue because in many cases it can become a distraction as opposed to a communications tool. Technology is often a distraction to personal development on the job and in the educational setting. On the job technology often results in multitasking that can affect productivity.

In addition, communicating via technology is somewhat problematic. For instance, sending a message through email may not be effective because the recipient cannot read the body language of the sender or the tone of voice. As such things are often misconstrued and the communication is not effective. To address this issue in the workplace some employers' limit the amount of email -- especially interoffice emails -- that can be sent.

Instead of using email, employers encourage employees to talk face-to-face or on the telephone.

As it relates to educational environments the developing of people can be problematic in the face of technology because it can impede upon the educational process. For instance, skills such as writing have diminished greatly in recent years because students are more reliant upon word processing software. As such skills such as grammar and spelling suffer because students no longer have to correct their writing -- it is done automatically via the software programs.

In fact by the time that many students reach college they have not developed the written language skills that are needed to be successful in the educational environment. In this sense the development of the individual is difficult because written language skills are important for academic success and success in the workplace. As such this form of communication must be developed to its fullest potential.

In addition to written language skills, many students also have difficulty with oral communication.… READ MORE
