Foreign workers in Mexico

Mexico is a large country with an approximate population of about 107,449,525 people which grows at an average of 1.16% annually. Over the years, there has been a general trend observed in the movement of people from rural to urban areas in search for better lifestyles and other available opportunities. As a result, most of its cities have continued to register high number of people where 70% of the country's total population lives in its various cities leaving only 30% in the rural areas. Mexican government is faced with the challenge of the ever rising population which has continued to put a strain on the economy as well as pressure on the scarce resources. Mexico City is considered the most populated as it supports many economic activities (Maps of the world, 2012).

To a large extent both federal and local government have put efforts to distribute resources to other cities to equally develop these regions which is an effort to decentralize businesses and services as well as governance. The government has introduced free education which therefore gives the citizens an opportunity to acquire basic education. Both the federal and state governments have continued to finance and support the universities and other institutions that offer tertiary education to ease the burden from the parents and students. The population is fairly educated, employment opportunities and job creation is the only challenge that the government faces.

als have either vacated or moved to look for opportunities from the developed nations with stable and advanced economies. Mexico has continued to offer cheap labour to its neighbors in various professions due to the affordability of its labour market. Majority of its laborers are either unskilled or semiskilled, this has continued to be the reason why other nations with need for cheap laborers have always turned to Mexico including the United States of America and other developed nations.

As much as the country has lost its workforce to other nations, it has also continued to attract other countries and foreign investors who have continued to invest in the country to create jobs. Mexico needs to trade with other nations as well in order to find market for its produce and minerals. The country operates an open economy whereby it is open for trade and employment of foreigners as executives in its companies. Mexico is endowed with natural resources which have greatly attracted foreign investors and as a result, most professionals have been employed to take part in the mining industry in collaboration with the local partners and workforce. In other sectors such as the agricultural sector, there have been restrictions as to how much an individual investor can hold and a small percentage allocated to foreign investors as per the constitution.

Mexico, due to its cheap labour has continued to enjoy working with foreign companies located near the U.S. border to take advantage of its favorable wage cost compared to other industrialized nations. These professionals and executives have enjoyed a mutual working relationship, a condition that has been triggered by the Mexican open economy and by being a member of WTO which has brought about the reduction of tariffs among member nations. The Mexican executives and professionals have continued to gain experiences and offered better employment opportunities compared to their local counterparts. It… READ MORE
