(Kraemer 2010) However with the recent findings regarding the release of dangerous toxins from Pet bottles, particularly when heated, the World Health Organization may have to find alternative materials or methods to purify drinking water in underdeveloped nations.Despite of the benefits derived from using plastic bottles, the dangers recently uncovered by the scientific world has forced governments to re-evaluate the use of these containers. In 2008 Health Canada, the Canadian health service, issue a report stating that biphenyl A was a danger to human life and health, specifically infants. In light of these newly discovered facts, the Canadian government took steps to become the first nation to limit human exposure to these dangerous chemicals. (Van Meter 2009) And it is not only nations reacting to this news, some of the world's largest companies, such as Heinz, ConAgra, General Mills, and Nestle have begun to address this issue. (Wade 2010) Unfortunately, not everyone agrees; neither the European Union nor the FDA has yet to make a finding determining BPA to be dangerous. However, despite the lack of support issued from these organizations, ordinary people are beginning to take an interest, not only in what they drink, but what they drink it out of as well. Many are investing the $9 to $35, and upward, for a metal water bottle specifically because of the news about BPA contamination from plastics. It would seem that the choice of consumers is to be healthy, and the old plastic bottle is no longer the bottle of choice among athletes and the eco-friendly crowd.
