Book Review on "Courting Disaster"

Some of his comments have been the subject of national and global media consideration arousing reactions from government officials. Robertson made American national news in October 2003 for meetings with writer Joel Mowbray about his book "Courting disaster: How the Supreme Court is usurping the power of Congress and the people." The book is critical of the United States Department of State (Barrett & Smolla, 2010). Robertson's critique intimated that if a minor nuclear device were to be discovered at the State Department, such a marvel might wake up the leaders of America to understand a potential risk. Government authorities were scornful at the prospect of such a situation.

In the close of 2001, Robertson examined the terrorist attacks with Jerry Falwell, who said, "the ACLU must be responsible for what happened" notwithstanding "the abortionists and the pagans and the feminists, and the gays, and the lesbians helped, who helped the dreaded terror attack happen" (Zelden, 2007). Robertson answered, "I completely agree." Both evangelists were genuinely censured by the then President George Bush for their discourse, for which Falwell later issued a conciliatory sentiment. Less than two weeks after Hurricane Katrina took 1836 lives, Robertson inferred on the September 12 show of The 700 Club that the storm was a direct punishment from God according to the U.S. abortion policy. He prescribed that September 11 and the New Orleans Disaster "could... be joined somehow"(Zelden, 2007).

In his controversial book, "Courting disaster: How the Supreme Court is usurping the power of Congress and the people," Robertson said that Islam is "a brutal political framework riding on the overthrow of the government of the planet and world dominion." He went onto expound "people are dealing with not a religion, they are dealing with a political framework, and I suppose we may also treat it as such, and treat its followers as such as we should treat members of the fascist group and communist party. Robertson's reaction to the 2010 Haiti earthquake additionally drew disputation and judgment. Robertson asserted that the founders of Haiti had sworn an "agreement to the Devil" to free themselves from the French slave owners and indirectly credited the tremor to the outcomes of the people of Haiti being "crushed" for what they had done (Zelden, 2007). The mainstream media later issued a comment that Robertson's remarks were dependent on the broadly talked over 1791-slave defiance headed by Dutty Boukman at Bois Caiman. The slaves professedly made a well-known agreement with the devil in return for the triumph over the French. Different figures in Evangelical and mainline Christianity have on event disavowed some of Robertson's arguments.

Evaluation

The suspense that Robertson creates requires me to offer a solution. The solution lies inside the states, not the national government. The tenth Amendment exists like the ninth: a comparable amendment saving rights to the individuals. We do not have to converse with Congress about these rights, but practice them. The individuals of South Dakota, for instance, may also essentially impose a ban on abortion at the state level. Some elected judge will strike it down. However, South Dakota may also decline to recognize this ruling. According to the constitution, South Dakota might be right. This demands arresting individuals who perform abortions while enforcing the state laws (Zelden, 2007). What might be the role of the federal judiciary? This Constitutional Crisis may happen. The states should follow up on their own rights. One cannot want help from the National Government. Why might they surrender such authority? Regardless of what they did, it would be for a period. If states never practice it, they will not be guaranteed.

Conclusion

I recommend that we either eradicate judicial activism from our vocabulary about the court's decision or define decisively what is implied by the term. Whoever way, it is clear that to argue that a decision is illegitimate since the court overruled a statute, overturned a previous case, or recognized a right that is not clearly mentioned in the Constitution. The typical employment of the insults is essentially insufficient. Whining about legal activism on those familiar bases is nothing more than an epithet. Improvement is evident in this case (Melashenko & Smith, 2009).
