[EXCERPT] . . . .

In the course of researching for this case, I came across information that seems to indicate that Zimmerman was not a racist. Indeed, prior to this unfortunate shooting incident, he had no history of racist behavior or racial bias. For instance, in addition to being a registered democrat who in one way or another supported the campaign of President Obama, Zimmerman was also one of those who had condemned the beating of a black man who also happened to be homeless by a police officer's son. At the time of the said protest, Zimmerman was part of a Sanford City Hall citizen forum. It is based on the facts of the case as well as the circumstantial evidence brought before it that the jury made the kind of ruling it made.

Conclusion

As I have already pointed out in the introductory section, Zimmerman's case remains one of the most debated cases in recent times. In addition to reopening the debate on race, the case also brought to the fore a number of other pertinent issues including but not limited to what exactly constitutes self-defense. Regardless of the raging debate at the time, a verdict had to be reached at the end of the day.
