This therapy also enlightens defense mechanisms and tells why every individual reacts contrarily to similar circumstances.Limits
Sigmund Freud failed to come up with the evidences of the influence of the surroundings on the individual all through his theory and concepts.
The theory lacks of some empirical data and stress too much on pathology.
This theory also lacks reflection of culture and its impact on personality.
These weaknesses have led to the fact that most of the modern research does not support most of the ideas in this theory.
(g) Your thoughts regarding the theory
My personal opinion about this theory is that there are three fundamentals of Psychoanalytical therapy: repress, resist as well as transference. Psychoanalytical therapy stresses on the unconscious which Freud believed has impact on human behavior. It emphasis mainly on the first six years of person's life that is early childhood (psychosexual stages) and answers how the events of this phase of life can influence person's life at a later stage.
