Coca Cola

The Coca-Cola Company was founded in the year 1886, and is one of the leading manufacturers of non-alcoholic drinks or beverages, and also syrups. It is responsible for producing almost 400 beverage brands all over the world, and the company though based in Atlanta, has operations in almost 200 countries all over the world. (Welcome to the Coca-Cola Company) the person who was actually responsible for the creation of Coca-Cola was Dr. John S. Pemberton in the year 1885, when it began to be sold as a 'brain tonic' but did not see success that way. Disappointed, he sold off the formula, after which it changed hands once again, after which it finally reached Asa D. Chandler, who hit upon the idea of adding bubbles to the drink, or, in other words, of 'carbonating' it. This was a stupendous success and in the year 1892 the Coca-Cola Company was founded, and it has never had to look back since that time. (Coca-Cola: The Great Idea Finder)

Initially after the company was founded, it concentrated on the manufacture and the sale of sweetened and carbonated sugar syrup that had been recently invented in the world and which was about to become part of the culture of the United States of America very soon. This syrup concentrate would help in concocting Coca-Cola, a soft drink beverage. (the Coca Cola Company: Britannica.com) JB Harrison, a young man from Chattanooga, TN, founded Coca-Cola Consolidated in the year 1902. This person gained the distinction of having become the world's very first Coca-Cola bottler when he happened to buy the franchisee of Coca-cola from the company from Greensboro, NC. It is a fact that until the beginning of the twentieth century, this soft drin

k was only sold at all soda counters in various drug stores. However, when JB Harrison invented the concept of selling this drink in bottles to customers in North Carolina, it became hugely popular.

Harrison actually started selling this 'bottled' drink by stocking them in a horse pulled wagon, with the famous advertising slogan 'Drink Coca-Cola in Bottles' and 'Now Served in Bottles at a Moment's Notice' written in bold lettering on its sides. The very fact that the drink was served in a bottle made it immensely popular and the concept of bottling drinks caught on like wildfire and soon the demand became very high. Though there were Two World Wars and also a Greta Depression in the intervening years, the Harrison family continued to do well and sell their drinks to customers whose range had now increased to the states of Raleigh, Winston-Salem, and also to Burlington, North Carolina. It was during the 1970's that the Coca-Cola Company finally merged with other bottling companies to form the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, which was consolidated in the year 1973, when the grandson of the original JB Harrison continued to look into the welfare of the company and built it up into a roaring business. (Coca-Cola Bottling)

During the 1980's the Coca-Cola Bottling Company started on a period of exploratory growth with the acquisition of Wometco, a larger bottler, in 1985. This move was an excellent one because it served to almost triple the original size of the company. The various selling territories grew in number and extended to Alabama, Virginia, Tennessee, Canada, and the Bahamas. Soon the company dissociated from its foreign operations and concentrated on West Virginia in the 1980's. With the purchase of Sunbelt Coca-Cola in the early 1990's, the Coca-Cola Consolidated teamed up with the Coca-Cola Company to purchase selling territories in North Carolina as well as in South Carolina, and to this day, the Coca-Cola Consolidated continues to manage all the operations of the joint venture company. The number of new acquisitions of the Coca-Cola Consolidated over the South east of the United Sates of America has been increasing steadily, and the Company is, today, one of the largest manufacturers of soft drinks in the whole world. Over 11 selling territories, its customer base numbers somewhere in 18 million. (Coca-Cola Bottling)

The Company has been proved to be the second largest bottling company in the world too, and is also one of the highest per capita soft drink bottlers in the whole world. The Coca-Cola Consolidated boasts of more than 6,000 employees who are responsible for more than five production centers and also more than 70 distribution and sales centers all over the world. From the single six and a half ounce bottle that was sold in the time of JB Harrison, the Coca-Cola Consolidated today sells a wide range of soft drink products, like the Coca-Cola Classic with or without caffeine, the Diet Coke, with and without caffeine, the Sprite and Diet Sprite, the Mello Yellow, the Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper, the Mr. Pibb, the Fresca and the Fruitopia, the Sundrop, the PowerAde, the Minute Maid range of soft drinks, the Minute Maid range of fruit juices, and Dasani, the Company's first bottled purified drinking water.

The Coca-Cola Consolidated till today remains a virtual pioneer in the soft drink manufacturing world, and it is always on the look out for fresh and new ideas and concepts, both for the management of the company as well as for the manufacturing of newer and better soft drinks that cater to the public demand for more variety and taste and also to the latest diet fads. The high speed filling lines of the Coca-Cola Consolidated, the state of the art vending equipment used by the company, and its large fleet of supplying trucks all have contributed towards making this company stay on top all these years, and also make it remain in the market as one of the best in the world. (Coca-Cola Bottling)

The Coca-Cola Company prides itself, and rightfully so, of the fact that its employees are all encouraged to develop themselves to their full potential in the diverse and varied cultural environment of the company. The company also states that the very heart and soul of the entire company is its people, who have been working within the environment of the Coca-Cola Company for more than a hundred years. The secret is the consistent set of values that are followed by all the employees of the company, and these are the intrinsic and basic values of integrity and honesty and hard work. The entire world may change and the business may change all the time, but these values will never change, feels the company, and herein lays its secret of long-term success. The Coca-Cola Company also believes in gaining insights into the varied cultures of varied people from all over the world, who work in the company. This, they feel would help them understand the people better, and this in turn would encourage the development of a world wide team of people from diverse cultures all over the world. (at Work)

The Coca-Cola Company also believes in the building up of the community by following the custom of 'giving back' to the same community of people who had been serving the company faithfully. This system ensures that the financial contributions and scholarships and the system of giving awards for its employees are all given to the employees from over 200 countries from all over the world. (Community Support) the Company's 'inclusive' method of dealing with supplier diversity is one of the best methods to be used. This method entails the inclusion of minority groups of people like women as partners of the company, since the fastest growing population in the United States is that of minorities, and if these people are wood, then most of the battle has been won.

As part of this method, the company has established a MWBE supplier mentor program that would help women owned companies to function better, and this would enable the company to build up a second tier of minorities that would help immensely in the success of the supply chain. (Supplier Diversity) yet another feather in the Coca-Cola Company's cap is its excellent and numerous bottling units. As the company states, one of the secrets for its continued success is the fact that it can conduct business world wide while at the same time maintaining a local flavor, and this is where the bottling system of the company comes in. The production of a single bottle of the more than 400 brands of soft drinks manufactured by this company entails production, packaging, and distribution.

When any one of the more than 6 billion customers of the Coca-Cola Company consumes one of their drinks, the truth is that it has to be of the best ever standard. Therefore, it goes without saying that its bottling system must be the very best in the world. These bottling partners of the company are actually locals or partially owned by locals, and this means that these local are steeped in their own culture and act according to it.
