I therefore believe that climate change and global warming are indeed issues that we as human beings should take seriously. We should do something about it now, before it is too late. We should stop wasting time debating the issue and start using these same minds to find solutions for an ever-increasing environmental crisis. Generally, there are two types of regulations that might be implemented to help control greenhouse gases and other polluting emissions and actions; command-and-control regulations and incentive-based regulations. Both have advantages and disadvantages.Command-and-control regulations means that officials implement rules and regulations that carry penalties if they are not obeyed. It is a type of hierarchical structure, where those who are under the law have not choice regarding either the law or the penalties it carries. The main advantage of this type of regulation is that it is easier to enforce across the board. Monetary penalties can then be invested into further environmental concerns. The disadvantage is the possibility of abuse by those in power. Some officials may be susceptible to bribery and corruption, which would make effective enforcement difficult. Incentive-based regulation, on the other hand, means that rewards are given for adhering to certain regulations. This could come in many forms, including financial or prestigious rewards. The main advantage here is that it creates a positive atmosphere in which regulation can occur freely and without corruption. The main disadvantage is that it requires significant investment, which makes it difficult to uphold in a sustainable way.
