[EXCERPT] . . . .

In order to develop and implement a good data backup strategy/policy, time management as well as time increments must be considered. This is because data could get backed up on an hourly/daily/weekly basis. Frequency is determined by the degree of critical information on the data as well as frequency of data input into the system. Any data backup strategy/policy will generate effectiveness when the file-naming convention, location of data storage, and frequency and transportation of backup of "offsite data" has been selected.

Another thing to consider is what would be the primary storage device for system and how to recover information from these storage devices. "Hard disks are employed as the primary storage device for consumer electronic products. But the data on hard disks may be lost due to error operations, malicious code attacks and software conflictions" (Liu & Chen, 2014, p. 34). In order to prevent inaccessibility of data on such storage devices, policy for backups should include reduction of fragments generated by backup operation, as well as security level of backup information, depressing directly above to the storage system. Consequently, an innovative prototype called the HVF or Host Protected Area Virtual File System prototype, may be a viable solution. "In order to boost security of data store locations, backup data or protected data are saved in Host Protected Area by the storage filter driver. The method of creating bitmap indexes for hard disks and the mechanism of the mapping relationship are proposed" (Liu & Chen, 2014, p. 34). HVF not only is a cost-effective approach to data backup as it focuses on hard disks, with minimal use of resources, but it is innovative and a

Businesses need a well formulated and implemented plan. BCP can help guarantee a business is equipped and organized for any potential crisis that may happen. Strategizing, categorizing, and organizing the information and resources necessary to handle emergencies comes from preparedness and research. There are a host of available options out there that will not only provide innovative approaches, but also cost-effective methodology. With a BCP plan businesses benefit from bringing in extra business in the form of shareholders, potential employees, and new customers that feel safe in case anything happens and they trust their information is safeguarded.

Without taking the necessary steps to prepare and organize through the use of BCP, potential risks could threaten the viability of a business. This rings especially true for the manufacturing sector where IT systems risks could jeopardize the delivery of necessary goods dependent on multifaceted supply chain systems. "The high level of complexity of supply chains and the inherent risks that exist in both the demand and supply of resources -- especially in economic downturns -- are recognized as major limiting factors in achieving high levels of supply chain performance" (Giannakis & Louis, 2011, p. 23). Systematic testing will allow for improved notification procedures, including retrieval team organization methods, system platform substitutes as well as backup storage media. These are all factors to consider when evaluating the effect of risks on internal and external connections.

Quoted Instructions for "Business Continuity Plan" Assignment:

In approximately 10 double-spaced pages discuss the planning steps, possible recovery options, and recommended testing requirements needed to support a successful business contingency/continuity of operations environment. Finally, the paper should include your recommendation for a proposed 24-month cycle business contingency testing plan -- what should be tested and how the test should be conducted. Perhaps ranking possible critical corporate assets with the type of testing (i.e., plan reviews, table-top exercises, or perhaps up to and including full blown backup and recovery tests) You should take into consideration costs associated with the recommended testing process -- not only personnel and equipment but also production costs. Please include a one-paragraph abstract.
