On my beach blanket I have left my basket, which in turn has attracted a crowd of seagulls. Circling above like vultures, they know there is something in the basket of interest. They chatter and scream and squall, conspiring to steal with my lunch. I return to the blanket to shoo them off and safeguard my humble meal, but they seem nonplussed by my return. Eventually they will lose interest and fly off, searching for tiny fish or crabs from the rocks.I lose track of the afternoon in the pages of my book. I have no groceries to buy, no classes to attend, no homework to labor over, no work -- not a care in the world nor a thing to steal my time. And it is my time, though I admit I've let my guard down and entirely lost track of it. That was, of course, the plan all along. It is only with the deepest satisfaction that I take note of the setting sun. The chill of the evening air is already drifting from the ocean, the cool reminding me to put on my sweater.
I am in awe of the crimson, the magenta, the tangerine and the mandarin. I sit in wonder at the fuchsia, the garnet, the glorious depths of blue the likes of which can only exist in pristine nature, the likes of which I seldom see anymore. Rays pierce distant clouds, spreading fabulous rich color across the horizon. As the orb dips at last into the sea, as if extinguished, the colors fade into a rich, deep blue, and above me the first stars begin to appear. Can there be anything other, in the face of such magnificence, than sheer and utter awe, the fireworks and spectacle of the sun, the sea and the sand, all drawing to a close the perfect winter's day at the…

The beach being one of my favorite places to go to relax, unwind and be at peace with myself and it has an abundance of sun, a refreshing ocean breeze and exceptionally soft sand. What a wonderful source of contentment! The weather is an extraordinarily warm 50 degrees today with the sun shining down from the translucent sapphire sky. Soon in the distance the water surface will start to fill with fishing boats of the local fisherman casting their fishing rods into the open water hoping to hook and reel in a fresh catch for dinner. Meanwhile a gentle sea breeze plays with my long blonde locks as it brings the light scent of sea salt as well as a hopeful early arrival of spring. Soon this coast will be filled with sun seekers aiming for their perfect tan and I can almost vision amazing sand castles being constructed by children zooming around, each trying to build a bigger one. Suddenly I can hear the gentle sound of rustling waves mixed with a whisper of seaweed as it rushes to the shore then rushes back out to sea taking the sand beneath my feel along with it and the crabs start scurrying about. The fluttering of the huge flock sea gulls swarming in the cloudless sky above trying to invade my lunch blanket makes them seem like vultures conspiring to fly off with my lunch. As I open my book and begin to read I have lost track of the day. No groceries to buy, no classes, no work, not a care in the world as I look up to see the sun going down and am in such awe of the beautiful reds and oranges of the vista in front of me.
